Graveland (engl. | dt. Grabesland) ist eine 1992 von Robert Fudali unter dem Pseudonym „Rob Darken“ gegründete polnische Black- bzw. Pagan-Metal-Gruppe, die sich in ihrere Anfangszeit stark an den skandinavischen Vorbildern Burzum und Bathory orientierte. Sie gilt als eine Kultformation in dieser Musiksparte, wird jedoch von vielen aufgrund der politischen Einstellung Darkens von den meisten Magazinen und Vertrieben boykottiert.

Musikstil

Zu Beginn spielte die Gruppe einen rohen, langsamen oder mittelschnellen Black-Metal-Stil mit rauem Gesang und einer vom Einsatz des Keyboards ausgehenden, dunklen Atmosphäre. Das zweite Album entfernte sich vom ursprünglichen Stil und stellt den Anfang der Entwicklung zur Pagan-Metal-Gruppe dar. Ab 1999 setzte Darken auf starke Einflüsse aus Filmmusik und Bathorys Viking-Metal-Phase mit klar gesungenen Chören und gutturalem Gesang. Trotz des Stilwechsels erschien im selben Jahr eine EP mit zwei Neuaufnahmen alter Stücke im Black-Metal-Stil, aber mit Elementen aus der neuen Phase der Gruppe.

Veröffentlichungen

Das Album The celtic winter erschien 1994 auf No Colours Records als EP. Das Album Thousand Swords wurde mehrfach nachgepresst, 1995 von Isengard Productions auf CD und 2001 von No Colours Records auf CD und LP

Das Demo Following the voice of blood erschien noch im selben Jahr auf CD und wurde schon ein Jahr später von der Bundesprüfstelle indiziert, produziert wurde sie von No Colours Records.
