- 1. Januar: Helmuth Johannes Ludwig von Moltke wird als Nachfolger von Alfred Graf von Schlieffen der Chef des Generalstabs der Armee
- 1. Januar: Königreich Bayern und Württemberg feiern beide das 100jährige Bestehen als Königreich
- 1. Januar: Die Arbeit von Kindern unter 10 Jahren wird im Deutschen Reich in Familienbetrieben erlaubt
- 21. Mai: Der deutsche Reichstag ändert Artikel 32 der Reichsverfassung und führt damit Abgeordnetendiäten ein.
- 14. Juni: Stapellauf der SMS Gneisenau in Bremen
- 8. Oktober: Eine vom deutschen Friseur Karl Nessler gebaute Apparatur, welche Damenköpfe mit Dauerwellen verschönt, wird von ihm in London vorgeführt.
- 3. August: In der Kieler Krupp Germaniawerft läuft mit U 1 das erste deutsche U-Boot vom Stapel.
- 27. September: In Braunschweig wird der Eulenspiegel-Brunnen enthüllt.
- 16. Oktober: Wilhelm Voigt besetzt das Rathaus von Köpenick
- 13. Dezember: Der Deutsche Reichstag wird aufgelöst, weil zuvor Zentrum und SPD einen Nachtragshaushalt abgelehnt hatten. Damit sollten erhebliche Geldausgaben für die koloniale Schutztruppe in Deutsch-Südwestafrika gebilligt werden. Bei der folgenden Reichstagswahl 1907 büßt die SPD-Fraktion 38 ihrer bisher 81 Sitze ein.
